Support for parents
DG Works Key Workers will support parents who want to develop new skills, move into employment and progress whilst in work, including helping parents to find suitable opportunities that balance with their caring responsibilities.
Our partnership includes a wide range of organisations and service providers that put local people and local families first. We work together to create accessible opportunities that make sure no one is left behind.
There are some specialised programmes that also support parents.
Whole family support for disabled young people and families
Whole Family Support Key Workers offer support to identified young people, with a disability, in their transition to leaving school.
Intensive support is provided to the young person 6 months prior to, and 6 months post school, with a pathway plan created with the young person at the heart of it, to support their aspirations for the future.
In addition, the team will support the wider family by offering advice, guidance and signposting to services where appropriate.
How to make a referral or find about more
Made via the school as an RFA.
Lived Experience
DG Works Project Officers will work with parents in their communities to co-design support services in their local area. Work through this lived experience approach has previously led to community hubs being opened in Stranraer and Kelloholm.
Clothing for Work
As part of a participant’s employability journey, we realise that individuals may face additional costs to get them ready for work. This fund is available to parents registered with DG Works who are engaging in work-related activity or have moved into work or another positive destination.
The fund can be used to support parents with appropriate clothing for job related activity such as interviews, placements and paid work. Needs will be identified by a Key Worker on an individual basis.
